The ‘B&B da Zia Maria’, by Maria and Giorgio, was established in 2000, year of the Jubilee.
Located at the heart of the oldest quarter of Atzara, called ‘su fruscu’, it is surrounded by the
ancient ‘domos de pedra’, i.e. stone houses (as the singer Piero Marras calls them in a song
dedicated to the small centre of Mandrolisai). In proximity to zia Maria’s house is one of the most
ancient buildings, a former parish house characterized by granite walls and beautiful trachyte
cornices, sculpted by hand to enframe large windows.
Zia Maria’s house is sited along via Sant’Antioco (patron Saint of Atzara), immersed in
absolute tranquillity. Maria and Giorgio are always willing to offer hospitality to whoever wishes
to stay, even for several days.
The house is of recent construction and it is furnished in Sardinian style: carpets,
tapestries, pillows, bath towels etc. were woven at the loom by Zia Maria’s skilful hands. Besides
being an excellent weaver, she is also an excellent housewife: indeed, at her house, her fine bread
and tasty jams, accompanied by home-made biscuits, can be tasted every day.
The house comprises a spacious, independent kitchen, with plenty of room to have breakfast,
and 4 bedrooms for a total of 12 people. There is also a cradle for newborn babies. All the rooms
are characterized by hygiene and simplicity, making guests feel at home.
